Persian New Year

Last March residents of Wesley House celebrated the Persian New Year. They prepared a beautiful table with different symbols linked to this event. The table is called "Haft Sin", which means "7 S". This is because all symbols put on it start with the letter S in the Persian language. These symbols are:

- Sabze (wheat, barley or lentil sprouts growing in a dish): symbolizing rebirth
- Samanu (a sweet pudding made from wheat germ): symbolizing affluence
- Senjed (dried fruit of the oleaster tree): symbolizing love
- Sir (garlic): symbolizing health
- Sib (apple): Symbolizing beauty and health
- Somaq (sumac berries): symbolizing the colour of sunrise
- Sekeh (coins): Symbolizing wealth and prosperity

Besides these, you can also see other items, such as:
- A bowl with a Gold Fish: sign of life
- Decorated Eggs: sign of fertility
- A poetry book and/or a holy book (Such as Quran - the holy book of Muslims or Avesta the holy book of Zoroastrianism which is the religion of Iranians before Islam)
- Mirror: symbolizing cleanness and honesty

Asbury Spring Party

The residents of Asbury Overseas House had a very good time on the 2nd of April 2009. People from different cultures and nations got together to celebrate the new season and the community that they had experienced in the house! As always, parties in Asbury are very significant for the variety of food and people. Not mentioning all different aroma of the food being prepared by the residents all over the house.

Spring is the season when see life being renewed: in flowers, trees and animals. It is also a great time for discovering the blessings of life in community. Something one can really feel when taking part in Asbury's gatherings. In occasions like that people spare time to meet each other and celebrate the life! As always, with good food, good chatting and of course, great friends!!"
